Policy 409 and inner-city Saint John schools will be a topic of conversation again with some facing closure.
As part of long-term planning for the Anglophone South School district, a study by Ernst and Young was conducted on inner city schools and it finds 7 schools serve a total population of 1750.
District Education Council chair Rob Fowler tells CHSJ News they will look at the report in terms how to best use the schools they already have and what can they do in terms of new construction, grade reconfiguration or additions with the first meeting at Millidgeville North school on October 19th.
He says the first meeting is a chance to explain the Ernst and Young proposal including what they have added to it and taken out of it adding at that time they take questions about the proposal and about the process.
There will be a second meeting at each school 4-5 weeks later and any recommendation go to the DEC by next year and then to the Minister of Education.
Fowler says any decisions regarding these schools which include M. Gerald Teed and Centennial school are up to five years away and the upcoming meetings are for long-term planning purposes.
Here is the meeting schedule:
Millidgeville North school October 19
Princess Elizabeth school October 26
Prince Charles school October 27
M. Gerald Teed school November 1
St. John the Baptist/King Edward school November 2
Centennial school November 7
Hazen-White/St. Francis school November 14
