Negotiations on a new health accord between the provinces and the federal government could be rocky.
The provinces say the federal government’s desire for three per cent annual increases in its funding for health care is not enough but Health Minister Jane Philpott says the federal contribution next year is increasing by more than a billion dollars.
Philpott says the provinces could save a lot of money by expanding home care so seniors are able to remain at home rather than ending up in the hospital where they don’t want to be.
She also points out health systems can been inefficient and fragmented.
