Carbon pricing alone doesn’t go far enough when it comes to climate change according to Stephen Thomas of the Ecology Action Centre in Halifax.
Thomas calls Prime Minister Trudeau’s announcement a small step but one that goes in the right direction, adding there will also have to be some tough regulations but clarity on the part of the federal government is good for the provinces because they have been given enough time to come up with their own systems to price carbon.
Thomas sees a system of carbon pricing as a signal that people are getting serious about mitigating the adverse effects of climate change and big decisions will have to be made on where the economy is heading in the future.
