An emotional RCMP Commissioner delivering any apology to all the women in the force past and present that have been victims of harrassment.
Bob Paulson says instead of succeeding and thriving in a supportive and inclusive workplace, many women have suffered careers scarred by gender and sexual discrimination, bullying and harrassment.
He says some of these women left the RCMP heartbroken, disillusioned and angry while others stayed and were forced to cope on their own with this inexcusable condition since they did not see an organization that was willing to change
Paulson said in an apology “You came to the RCMP hoping to contribute to your community and we failed you. We hurt you. And for that I am truly sorry”.
A settlement agreement has been reached on two class-action lawsuits on behalf of women who are currrent and former regular and civillian members of the RCMP.
It could cost the Trudeau government upwards of $100 million.
