Ever heard of a Red Hatter?
Bev Cornish is the Queen of the Luscious Lupins from Summerside, PEI says at one point doctors were recommending the organization to women over the age of 50, because they need to have fun, a place where you can laugh and forget your worries and just go out an have a good time.
Cornish says you can find Red Hatters all over the world and they really love to dress up, “Costumes, red and purple and white, big hats, boas, lace gloves, that’s all part of the fun. That’s all part of dressing up, like when you were a little girl. You just give yourself permission to get dressed up and go out and have some fun.”
Cornish says they’ve received a lot of compliments during their outings, “We recently went to a new restaurant, and a gentlemen from British Columbia came up to us and he said he had been to another restaurant and there was a huge group of Red Hatters there. He just thought it was just wonderful, and he took the time to come to our table and tell us how wonderful this is that we are doing this for ourselves. And he is absolutely right.”
Every year, they hold a Red Hat Hoot. This is their 12th annual, and it is planned from October 14 to the 16th. Up to 140 Red Hats from right across Atlantic Canada usually attend, It is being held in Mill River, PEI this year.
