“People are just not making enough money”.
That from Hazel Clarke of the North End food bank in Saint John who says they need more donations of both food and money.
She says they are available Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings for donations or you can call 634-7403 adding she’ll open up for donations at any time.
Clarke says the number of people using their food bank is up 42 per cent since March of this year when they served 1800 people which includes men, women and children in one month.
The North End food bank need items like pasta sauce, cheese spread, peanut butter, snacks for kids lunches, instant coffee and they can use medium-sized sealed bags for handing out rice or oatmeal they recieve in bulk.
Muffin mixes that only require water are good for famillies trying to make a dozen eggs go farther.
Right now she says they are getting low on meat and eggs but she prefers cash to buy those items because she can get a better deal.
