A new study has found the regulations governing salmon aquaculture in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, B-C, Maine and Norway don’t meet international standards to protect wild fish. New Brunswick had the lowest grade.
Neville Crabbe of the Atlantic Salmon Federation says the regulations in New Brunswick are outdated.
Crabbe says wild fish become weaker when mixed with farmed fish and the Federation has not see any fish cages anywhere that are escape proof.
He warns the numbers of wild Atlantic salmon in the Bay of Fundy are way down.
