It’s been one year since the Oasis Youth Centre established itself as an organization in Kennebecasis Valley.
Executive Director Yennah Hurley says the centre has a Youth Advisory Committee, which is a group of 19 kids who have volunteered their time and have been involved with the centre even before it opened.
Hurley says they helped with painting and renovations, and also help the centre in terms of what programs they offer.
She calls the centre a “place for the kids to hang out, where they’re safe can learn some great life skills”.
The centre provides recreational, educational, mental health and preventative programs for youth aged 12 to 25.
The KV Oasis Youth Centre is asking for $15,000 from the town of Rothesay to help finance a new hub, or games room.
Hurley says it will be an area for games, music and it will also provide more space for a variety of different programs.
A grand opening and open house will be held on November 3rd from 10am-6:30pm.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 6:30pm.
The youth centre is located at 26 Pettingill Rd, Quispamsis.
