Cancer rates in Atlantic Canada are much higher than the rest of the country.
That from Anne McTiernan, Executive Director of the Canadian Cancer Society in New Brunswick.
The number one type of cancer for men in New Brunswick is prostate cancer and breast cancer is the most common type of cancer for women.
McTiernan says cancer rates in Atlantic Canada are higher because of an aging population and our lifestyle.
She says that includes obesity rates, sedentary lifestyle and higher smoking rates.
The Cancer Society is also pushing for the provincial government to offer the HPV vaccination program to boys and not just girls.
Recent stats show cancers of the mouth and throat caused by HPV are rising drastically among men and has almost surpassed the rate of cervical cancer in females.
