Everyone in the province will soon have to travel to Bordertown if they want to register paper documents with the Land Registry. The Liberal government announcing today, 13 land registration offices are being amalgamated into one, which will be in St. Stephen. Service New Brunswick Minister Ed Doherty says clients will still be able to access land information services in thirteen of the thirty-two Service NB centres across the province, but the registration of paper documents and plans will need to be submitted at the new centralized location in St. Stephen. “Being responsible for taxpayers dollars, we’ve tried to centralize and provide efficiencies in the work that government does. So this will provide savings to the taxpayers of about $2 million.” The move will create six new jobs in St. Stephen, in management, administration, and back office processing. The current Service NB location in St. Stephen will remain as is, with the centralized registry office location being announced in the next six months.
