Consumers are getting a price break these days according to a report released by Stats Canada with overall food prices up just .1% year over year in September.
The food you buy in stores recorded their first year to year decline since March 2008. They fell .9% in the 12 months to September to where they were in January of last year.
The fresh vegetables index in September was down year over year for the first time since January 2013 and the dairy products index was also down on a yearly basis.
The price of cereal products including rice, pasta, flour and breakfast cereal, fell for a third consecutive month.
