The province’s Climate Change Committee has released 85 recommendations which include developing made in New Brunswick carbon pricing with the revenue going into a climate change fund.
The committee is recommending the phase out of fossil fuels to generate electricity by 2030.
Another recommendation is to establish specific targets with greenhouse gas emissions 40 per cent below the 1990 levels by 2030 and 80 per cent below the levels of 2001 by 2050.
The committee would like to see renewable forms of energy used in provincial government buildings and a Climate Change Act passed.
The recommendations from the climate change committee, if adopted by the provincial government, will be good for New Brunswick and create jobs. That’s what Dr. Louise Comeau of the New Brunswick Conservation Council is saying in voicing her support.
The committee is recommending as well that climate change be considered in all the decisions made by the provincial government.
