The 100th anniversary of one of the most significant battles in Canadian history at Vimy Ridge is almost upon us.
The 3rd Field Regiment from New Brunswick be part of the memorial services at Vimy Ridge in France. Retired Lieutenant Colonel Steven Strachan says other armies had tried but failed to win at Vimy Ridge. He credits Canadian ingenuity with dragging the heavy weaponry up the hill which enabled the heavy gunners to fire deeper into enemy lines.
10 serving soldiers from the Loyal Company and one veteran will be making the tip to Vimy Ridge.
A gala fundraiser will be held November 5th at the Marco Polo Cruise Terminal on Water Street. Tickets go for $100 each and are available at the Barrack Green Armoury at 637-7789.
