Mayor Don Darling says the legislation being introduced next month to repeal the LNG tax concession is “an important step for Saint John”.
Darling says it’s all about tax fairness and levelling out the playing field.
He says the repeal could be positive for not only Saint John, but for other municipalities as well.

The city will know exactly where it stands in 2017 and Darling says there’s a mechanism in place to shield Saint John, and other municipalities in New Brunswick from the impacts of a potential appeal.
Councillor Gerry Lowe says nothing will happen until it’s “all done and Irving stops appealing what it’s worth”.
Lowe says it’s been nine or ten months coming, but it sets a precedent for anybody else that there’s not going to be anymore breaks.
He says no matter what happens today, Saint John is so many years behind since 2005 forward and it’s “as simple as that”.
