The Atlantic Lottery Corporation delivered 432 million dollars in profits to the 4 Atlantic provinces in 2016.
Despite that, the 4 Auditor-Generals want some changes in way the lottery corporation does business.
New Brunswick Auditor-General Kim MacPherson says the lottery corporation could not demonstrate the value in spending $73 thousand dollars on concert and event tickets. One of those events was the Cavendish Beach Music Festival. 125 additional tickets were purchased for Lottery Corporation board members, executives as well as senior government and elected officials along with political staffers.
48 thousand dollars was spent on tickets for the AC-DC concert in Moncton. 26 of those tickets were given to senior government and elected officials from an unnamed province.
The expenditure of $111 thousand on Christmas party expenses over 29 months also came under criticism.
MacPherson says the four provincial governments in Atlantic Canada changed their minds about internet gambling and it cost $640 thousand which was written off. In another example, the Nova Scotia government directed ALC to pay a private company (Techlink) $1.26 million even though ALC’s management and board had serious concerns with this.
She also warns about a $79 million pension shortfall.
When combining salary, bonuses and benefits, top ALC executives have the opportunity to earn about $390 thousand a year.
