Big changes are taking place at the port with the 205 million dollar modernisation.
This past weekend massive blue cranes arrived here from Charleston, South Carolina for DP World. They could be seen in the harbour Saturday morning.
Port Engineer Tyler O’Rourke tells CHSJ News the changes are being brought about because Saint John wants to increase container traffic and the ships are getting larger.
O’Rourke says the main channel in the harbour has to be deepened to accomodate the larger ships.
DP World Saint John, which will be starting its operations at the port in January, is adding new terminal cargo handling equipment to expand capacity.
