The provincial government is being called on to do more for nurses who are facing increasing violence on the job.
The President of the New Brunswick Nurses Union Paula Doucet says the government could use the Occupational Health and Safety Act to give nurses more protection and support. Doucet is talking about such things as risk assessment, prevention, incident followup, support, training on diffusing volatile situations and education.
She says the message should be sent out loud and clear that it’s not acceptable to be walking into any health facility and expect you can be verbally or physically abusive.
