A national class action lawsuit has been launched by a group of lawyers against the federal government for the way its LGBT employees have been treated over the years.
One of the lawyers, Doug Elliot, a longtime gay rights activist, says they were seen as a threat to national security and even as criminal deviants even after then Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau declared the government has no business in the bedrooms of the nation.
Elliot charges a poisoned work environment continues to this day especially in the military.
The federal government has promised an apology but there’s no word when that will be forthcoming and whether it will be accompanied by compensation.
