The Gallant Government’s speech from the throne, read by the Lieutenent-Governor, pointed to education as its number one focus during the latest session of the New Brunswick Legislature.
The speech says that education is linked to the overall success of the province’s other priorities, and cites the government’s 10 year education plan, the implementation of the first year of the so-called free tuition program, the re-introduction of French immersion to grade one and more.
“Better educated people are better prepared to find and succeed in jobs, growing the economy,” says Jocelyne-Roy Vienneau, reading the speech, “and better educated people are more likely to make healthier choices and avoid chronic illnesses and hospital care.”
The government has also pledged this year to increase the amount it provides to New Brunswickers to help with the cost of providing daycare, and, is developing a training strategy for increased training requirements for early childhood educators.
The speech also says New Brunswickers and the government share three main priorities which are jobs, education and health care, and that education links the other two.
The Gallant Government has now passed the halfway point of its four year mandate.
