Plans are already underway for the Special OlympicsSummer Games that are coming to Moncton in 2017.
One of the things they are in need of is volunteers.
Chair Lorraine Leclair says they’re in need of people for advance preparations, “At the front end, right there now, obviously we are going to need somewhere in the neighbourhood of 15 to 20 volunteers, as we start to evolve and develop things for the opening ceremonies and to be able to have support in lodging. Then, as we get closer to the event itself, we will be looking at taking names and giving them some orientation so they can get involved with the weekend. We have all different levels of volunteer opportunities, so if you think you can give us an hour, that is certainly time that we can appreciate.”
When Leclair started out as a volunteer, she says one of the first roles she had was as a hugger, “That was the person who would catch the guy who was coming at the home stretch on his way running his track meet. He just wanted a hug when he got there.”
