If things keep going the way that they’re going, Saint John could be seeing a record-setting year for tourism.
That is according to Discover Saint John, which points to an increase in local hotels by 5.8-percent at the end of September compared to the year before.
Events like the Area 506 festival, the Buskers on the Bay festival and the Telus Cup are also being identified as some of the events that have led to this year’s increased tourism numbers. Executive Director Victoria Clarke says that they’re up in all aspects from last year.
“We’re hoping to continue that our stats from October, November and December also hold strong and if they do this will be one of the best years Saint John has ever seen,” says Clarke.
Things are looking for the years to come as well.
“We have actually landed meetings, conventions, sports tourism, business as far as 2022,” says Clarke. “So when we’re already looking to our meetings and convention sales for 2017, they’re strong.”
