A national spotlight will shine on the New Brunswick comedy scene in the near future with the stand-up sets at an upcoming show in Quispamsis slated to be broadcast through CBC’s Laugh Out Loud program, which chose the area for a live taping.
Mark Burnett is the co-owner of the production company Something Funny Inc. which is promoting and producing the live show, he makes note of the fact this area was chosen before Montreal and St. John’s, which he describes as hot-beds of comedy.
“They saw what was happening here and how comedy has just exploded over the last few years and they also saw the talent that’s coming out of this area, and decided that they’ll come here,” says Burnett.

Comedians James Mullinger, Ansar Hassan, Jimmy MacKinley, Matt Richardson, Darren Elmore and Garrett Clark will be performing at the show, which is happening at KV Billiards on November 17 at 8:30pm. When we spoke to Burnett on Monday morning, tickets were running low:
“It’s really something to see how much comedy there is, and the greatest thing is, we’ve hardly even scratched the surface as far as audiences go,” says Burnett. “There are so many people I talk to on a daily basis that don’t even know there’s comedy happening.”
