U.S. democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has delivered her concession speech in New York after her stunning loss to Donald Trump.
Clinton says while this election outcome is painful, and it will be for a while, we “owe president-elect Donald Trump an open mind and the chance to lead.”
She also addressed the women who she says have put their faith in her, saying nothing has made her prouder than to be their champion. She also delivered a message for the young girls out there watching.
“Never doubt that you are valuable, and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams,” says Clinton.
Clinton says while we haven’t yet shattered that “highest and hardest” glass ceiling yet, she believes someday someone will and hopefully sooner than someone might think.
Outgoing U.S. president Barack Obama also delivered remarks on Trump’s victory. He says we’re now all rooting for Trump’s success in uniting and leading the country.
“We all want what’s best for this country, that’s what I heard in Mr. Trump’s remarks last night, that’s what I heard when I spoke to him directly and I was heartened by that,” he says.
Obama has invited Trump to the White House Thursday to talk about ensuring a successful transition of power.
He says he couldn’t be prouder of Clinton who he says has lived an “extraordinary life of public service.”
