2016 is likely to be the hottest year on record, according to a report from the World Meteorological Organization.
A new report shows preliminary data for this year puts global temperatures 1.2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
Global temperatures spiked in the early months of this year thanks in part to a strong El Nino, however, that extra heat is disappearing as the event is fading.
However, the WMO warns the heat from global warming is continuing, with temperatures 3 degrees Celsius above average in parts of the Canadian Arctic.
