The Nature Conservancy of Canada has taken steps to conserve energy at Johnson’s Mills Shorebird Reserve and Interpretive Centre.
In May they installed four solar panels with the help of Fundy Solar and EOS Eco Energy.
Spokesperson Andrew Holland says already they are seeing signs of electricity savings, “Lots of sunshine comes in, and the first tonne of carbon offsets has been counted. Hopefully it will encourage others to think about doing the same thing. The power generated will go back through the New Brunswick power grid for credits through NB Power.”
Holland says this was done as a part of renovations to the Centre, that also included the addition of more seats for more visitors, and improvements to the sitelines. They also made it more accessible for those with disabilities.
