The situation at the North End food bank has improved since facing closure just a few weeks ago.
We asked co-ordinator Hazel Clarke what changed and she says they recieved tremendous support from the community.
She says there have been food drives, people dropping by with donations and several people heard about their struggles and dropped off apples, squash and kale.
Clarke was asked for her thoughts on word provincial food bank usage has incread by 26 per cent over the last 8 years.
She tells she doesn’t think food banks are the answer to the poverty issue adding they are a stop gap measure and they can’t provide everything people need.
Clarke says they currently need items like jam and fruit juice and she loves it when people add holiday treats to their donations and she is setting them aside for use closer to Christmas.
The food bank is open on Monday from 930-1130am, Tuesday from 9a-1pm and Thursday from 930-1130am.
If those times don’t work, another time can be arranged by calling 506-634-7403.
