The President and CEO of Horizon Health wants to clarify what he said at a recent meeting with rural hospital foundations.
John McGarry says at no point did he encourage any of the foundations to change their bylaws and mandates in order to make it easier to share their funds with the larger medical centres.
He does say, however, that it was suggested by some of the foundations themselves in order to reflect their role beyond the hospital.
McGarry says, at the meeting, he was refering to how it is often a challenge to have provincial participation in campaigns for the Saint John Regional Hospital’s major tertiary equipment, as many other communities consider the items to be Saint John’s responsibility, and not their own.
Some of those items include the 3T MRI, gene sequencer, or a linear accelerator.
The Concerned Citizens of Charlotte County group previously said that McGarry encouraged the foundations to change their by-laws in order to share funds, during a meeting in October with sixteen hospital foundations from across the province, including Charlotte County.
