A waste of time and a waste of money…….That’s the reaction of Bob Davidson of the New Brunswick Police Association to the court decision reinstating Constable Jeff Smiley to the Fredericton Police Department.
Davidson says the New Brunswick Police Commission took a whole year of Smiley’s life away and now he will get back his lost pay and might even launch civil court action.
Davidson says the Police Commission overstepped its authority by unilaterally using an arbitrator who was not on the mutually agreed to arbitrator’s list thereby creating an uneven playing field and putting Smiley at a disadvantage.
Fredericton Police Chief Leanne Fitch initiated a domestic assault investigation against Smiley who’s a decorated officer. The assault charge against Smiley was later dropped.
Davidson says Smiley saved a woman’s life after her car went into a river in the wintertime and, in the process, caught pneumonia. He adds the Fredericton Police Department is out of control and in a state of seige.
