A seniors’ advocacy group in New Brunswick is once again upset with the Gallant government over what it perceives as another potential cash grab of assets for nursing home care.
Cecile Cassista with the Coalition for Seniors and Nursing Home Residents’ Rights says she was shocked when new legislation passed second reading last week.
“The (provincial) government now wants to enter into an agreement with the federal government, Revenue Canada, to access information pertaining to your income and also other information that is confidential,’ she notes.
Cassista says her group is prepared for another fight if necessary and she has a meeting planned with the minister of seniors and long-term care.
The province maintains the legislation will help speed up the assessment for clients of government programs.
