The Gallant government appears to have heard the loud cries of opposition to Bill 12 and has made amendments to the legislation.
A seniors advocacy group and an anti-poverty group were among those concerned about Bill 12 which would have allowed the Canada Revenue Agency to share information with the province about seniors needing nursing home care or anyone who needed social assistance.
Progressive Conservative social development critic Ernie Steeves says he’s pleased the province has listened and made changes to the legislation.
“It means that their personal information is not going to be tapped into. It means that they have the right to certain information that not event the government can take from them. That’s really imporatnt to seniors in particular but it should be important to everybody,” he adds.
The Gallant government’s amendments to Bill 12 announced this week will mean that personal information will be limited to name and date of birth and nothing further.
