A memorial service for former Common Councillor and Saint John High Principal Dennis Knibb will be held this coming Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 in the school’s auditorium named after him. Knibb passed away at the age of 89.
CTV news anchor Steve Murphy served as Student Council President when Knibb was Principal in the 1970’s. Murphy says even when his physical health was on the decline, Knibb was still sharp as a tack.
He also served on Common Council where, Murphy says, he was that rare politician who believed you could be in disagreement without being disagreeable. Murphy says he and a few other students at Saint John High encouraged Knibb to run in 1977 for a seat on Common Council. Knibb jokes they were just trying to get him away from the school.

Murphy says Knibb knew about all of the students at the school and was invested in them which is another rare quality.
A reception following the memorial service will be held in the David Ring gymnasium at Saint John High.
