A special weather statement has been issued, and according to Environment Canada, we can expect some rain and snow over southern and eastern portions of the province starting Saturday night.
But the severity of this system is unknown at this point.
Meteorologist at the Environment Canada Storm prediction centre Jeffrey Hilliard says there’s some uncertainty at this point exactly where this system will affect, and what it will bring, “It’s going to affect most of the Maritimes, it’s just a matter of how bad it will be. A lot of areas could get just rain, and our current guide is suggesting that central portions and northern portions will get mostly snow. There is the potential that we may have to issue snowfall warnings. The special weather statement we have out is generally just an early notification for traffic and travel, for those who might have a busy weekend planned, so we like to get a bit of a noitification out early that there could be some bad weather.”
Hilliard expects they will have a better idea by tonight’s forecast as to what areas will be affected, and whether or not those snowfall advisories are needed.
