Consumer confidence in Saint John has bounced back after a dramatic drop during the first quarter of the year.
As for the reason people are feeling more secure, CEO of the regional economic development agency Enterprise Saint John Steve Carson says we’re seen a lot of activity in our economy over the last few months and even though there are no so-called “mega-projects” — there are still significant projects going on.
“The city’s $200-million dollar water, the Irving Oil home office, Moosehead’s exciting plans for the waterfront,” says Carson.
“We’re seeing other smaller developments of new restaurants and new businesses popping up all over the commmunity, so that really has people feeling much more positive about the economy.”
Carson says consumer confidence is an important ingredient because investors and businesses make further investments in their business and create jobs based off of consumer confidence and spending.
Corporate Research Associates recently released numbers that show consumer confidence has gone up to 102.3 — in the first quarter of this year it was at 81.3.
Consumer confidence is up in Saint John about three points from three months ago.
