Federal government departments have to be managed better. That message coming in a report from Federal Auditor-General Micheal Ferguson. As an example, he pinpoints someone who has a tax issue with Revenue Canada, saying it can take a year to have the file assigned to an appeals officer which is unacceptably long.
Ferguson is also calling on the Canadian Armed Forces to improve its recruitment, saying there’s a growing shortage of trained members yet they’re losing qualified applicants. When it comes to military equipment, he’s critical of the the armed forces paying for services they couldn’t use.
Ferguson also accuses the federal government of erecting barriers that make it more difficult to resolve native land claims.
