On Black Friday this year, Canadians spent the majority of their money on women’s clothing, sporting equipment, and electronics.
Black Friday is the second biggest consumer purchase day of the year, beaten only by December 23rd.
That’s according to Rob Cameron, the Chief Product Officer for Moneris, the largest payment processing company in Canada.
“So Canada as a whole, we saw that Black Friday spending was up 6% over last year, and in New Brunswick specifically it was up 5%, so right around the national average in terms of increase,” says Cameron.
He says this year, they registered 47% of payments were made through contactless, or tap options, a 121% increase from last year.
