A motion in support of the Energy East pipeline project passed in the legislative assembly yesterday with the support of both the government and the official Opposition.
The motion, called for the legislative assembly to recommit its support for construction of the Energy East pipeline. It was moved by Premier Brian Gallant and seconded by Opposition Leader Blaine Higgs. It was tabled in an effort to reinforce the government’s support of the project, and was similar to a motion in 2012, that also confirmed the government’s commitment.
The government says over 4500 direct and indirect jobs could be created during construction of the pipeline, with 321 jobs every year of operation, and that has the potential to increase New Brunswick’s GDP is more than $3 billion.
Premier Gallant added that the The Energy East pipeline is not just important for New Brunswick; it is important for the entire country.
