The Nature Conservancy of Canada began its “Moose Sex Project” five years ago to encourage more moose from New Brunswick to cross the Chignecto Isthmus and find mates in Nova Scotia where the animal is endangered.
Nova Scotia’s moose population is now less than 1,000 animals while New Brunswick has an abundance of moose with numbers estimated at 29,000.
A tongue-in-check fundraising campaign called “Help the moose cross the Isthmus for Christmas” soon followed during the holiday season.
NCC spokesperson Paula Noel says donations help protect the vital wildlife corridor between the two provinces.
Noel says if you have an animal lover on your Christmas list, a donation in their name to the “Moose Sex Project” will make a unique gift they will never forget.
