As you select a Christmas tree for this year, the provincial government is urging you to buy a local, real tree.
Minister of Resource Development Rick Doucet says when you buy a real New Brunswick Christmas tree, you’re supporting a local family and contributing to the provincial economy.
“The fact is real trees are sustainable, they’re environmentally friendly, and you know, quite frankly, there’s nothing like the smell of a real Christmas tree,” says Doucet. “For me, we picked up our Christmas tree last week, and it was locally grown, and here we are in the festive spirit.”
Doucet says when he thinks of fake, or plastic Christmas trees, it reminds him of something imported, and not made in the province.
He states more than 180 New Brunswick farmers produce thousands of Christmas trees each year, generating up to $15 million in sales.
