More has to be done to conserve wetlands according to the President and CEO of the Nature Conservancy of Canada, John Lounds.
He says wetlands are nature’s way to sequester carbon and their value was underestimated back when there wasn’t all that much public concern over the environment and none about climate change. Wetlands, at that time, were converted to agricultual use. Lounds also points out peatland is also considered wetland.
Lounds argues marine conservation has to be part of any climate change plan.
The Conservation Council maintains conserving wetlands is a cheap way to reduce our carbon footprint.
The Nature Conservancy of Canada is trying to raise $15 thousand dollars to buy land on Grand Manan to be used as a bird sanctuary.
