One young man is dead and another is going to prison because of a fight at a New Year’s Eve party last year on the West side.
20 year old Brodie John White originally plead not guilty to a charge of second degree murder in the death of 22 year RJ Veneau.
White was carrying around a large knife on December 31st when he stabbed Veneau once in the neck because he felt disrespected.
Veneau later died from his injuries.
In a victim impact statement, RJ’s mother Tabitha said she’ll never see him graduate and never hold a grandchild adding normal will never be the same.
In November, White plead guilty to a charge of manslaughter.

Mr. Justice Darrell Stephenson agreed to a joint submission of 8 years. Because of time served, White’s actual sentence is 6 years and 6 and 1/2 months in prison.
Justice Stephenson noted that while White had been doing well caring for his son and working, in this case he let his anger get the better of him.
Brodie White addressed the court breaking down and saying he’s ashamed of his actions.
