Quispamsis town council has approved its budget for next year totalling over $23,000,000.
The budget includes a one-cent increase to the tax rate, which will bring it to $1.28.
Mayor Gary Clark says the feedback to the tax rate increase has been mainly positive.
Clark says he thinks people understand and says the increase will allow the town to focus on roads and infrastructure in 2017.
The town will borrow roughly $750,000 over 15 years to upgrade roads.
It will be the biggest investment in roads the town has ever made.
The budget for next year includes $2.5 million dollars that will be spent on paving and upgrading roads and the money the town will borrow will go towards upgrading an additional 10 roads that will be determined next year.
The cost of residential garbage, compost pick-up and curbside recycling for the town next year is $941,000.
Public transit costs were essentially the same when compared to last year at $155,000.
Roughly $6-million dollars will cover the costs associated with the police and fire departments, which is an increase of approximately $175,000 when compared to last year.
Quispamsis town council also approved $2500 in funding for the Cherry Brook Zoo.
The budget also included $209,000 for the Telecom 911 service provided to Kennebecasis Valley.
