Darrell Fox does not mind being known as Terry’s brother, in fact, he’s embraced it.
Darrell says he’s happy being Terry Fox’s brother and he’s quite comfortable with that role.
He was in Saint John this past week as the Terry Fox Research Institute announced an investment of $5 million for New Brunswick cancer researchers.
The funding will go towards myeloma cancer research with the project being based here in Saint John at UNBSJ.
Fox says he doesn’t mind going to Toronto, Calgary, or anywhere for the Terry Fox brand, but calls being in Saint John “very special”.
Darrell Fox met up with Terry in Saint John for the Marathon of hope 37 years ago.
He says he remember getting up at 4am as a 17 year old to watch Terry run and says he “never got tired of watching him run”.
Darrell admits sometimes he still can’t get over the fact his brother became a Canadian icon.
He says growing up, they would call Terry “mad man” because he hated losing so much.
Fox attributes that mentality being a main reason behind Terry’s success in raising millions of dollars for cancer research.
