Saint John has joined the likes of Chicago, New York, Toronto, and Vancouver with the establishment of a Cardinal Path office, a marketing analytics consulting firm which has committed to creating up to 100 jobs in the Port City over the next five years.
“We’re looking for college grads, we’re looking for university grads, we’re looking for community college grads we’re looking for anyone who is interested in being part of this industry,” says Cardinal Path CEO Alex Langshur, who tells us the usual candidate is someone in the computer science or STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) field, but:
“We also have positions in project management, and design and coordination…it’s a broad footprint that we’re trying to establish here.”
When it comes to the salaries that will be paid for these positions, Langshur says it will be above the norm.

Opportunities New Brunswick is providing $900,000 in payroll rebates to the company, which will only be paid out when the jobs are created at the end of each year. That money is going towards both the creation of the jobs and employee training.
Six people have already been hired, four of whom are originally from Saint John, and they’re working in the Connexion Works space in uptown Saint John. One of those six is digital project coordinator Nicole Merrithew.
“I originally went to UNB Fredericton and I was thinking about maybe staying in Fredericton because it was hard to find a job,” says Merrithew. “I just started two weeks ago on May 15 and I’m already learning so much.”

The provincial government has estimated that the creation of these new jobs would add $1.2-million in personal income tax revenue and $17-million in GDP growth over the five years.
