The Sisson Mine Project outside Fredericton was given the green light by the federal government today.
The project is expected to create up to 500 jobs at the peak of construction, and 300 jobs over the 27 year life of the mine.
The provincial government estimates the project will produce $280 million in mineral royalties, and $245 million in tax revenue over the project’s lifetime.
New Brunswick Energy and Resource Development Minister Rick Doucet says this will also bring other economic benefits.
“This project will create many spinoffs in the supply and service sectors and enhance New Brunswick’s reputation as a desirable destination for resource development,” says Doucet. “When I think of the potential spinoffs, we think of the Port of Saint John, we think of the rail lines, we think of the trucking that could be impacted from every corner of the province.”
The estimated $579 million dollar investment Sisson Project development is a proposed open pit tungsten and molybdenum mine, as well as an ore processing facility and related infrastructure.
