An investigation has been launched by the New Brunswick SPCA after a complaint was lodged against Rockwood Stables in Saint John.
The SPCA tells CHSJ News an animal protection officer was sent to check out the allegations but they aren’t able to say more than that as they’re still assessing the situation and figuring out the next course of action, if there is any.
This comes after a Facebook post which criticized the conditions of the stable area, including the water buckets and garnered a lot of attention online.
Rockwood Park has responded with a Facebook post saying the horses are loved by many and their welfare is of top concern.
“The stables have been operated by the same people for many years and they have regular visits from one of the best veterinarians in the province (a provincially funded vet)…take a look at all of the horses on the property, these two are older (a testament to their long term care) and one has a health problem,” the post from Rockwood Park reads.
“The SPCA and vets will be the ones to decide if th ewater and other cleanliness concerns are an animal welfare issue…we ask that people allow the proper experts to weigh in before prosecuting people who have devoted their lives to Rockwood Park stables for over 25 years.”
