A retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces from Halifax is facing charges of sexual assault stemming from his posting on HMCS Toronto more than 7 years ago.
The charges relate to incidents involving another member of the military and said to have occurred between January 2010 and September 2011.
Master Warrant Officer Andrew Durnford of Halifax faces two counts of sexual assault, one count of assault, one count of conduct to the prejudice of good order and discipline and one count of ill-treating a person who by reason of rank was subordinate to him.
The commanding officer of the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service, Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Bolduc says these charges reflects the ongoing committment to support and protect victims by throroughly investigating all allegations of sexual assault and bringing those responsible to justice even after
those people have left the armed forces.
The case is now moving through the military justice system for possible court martial with a date and location to be determined.
