Mothers Against Drunk Driving is applauding the new measures that are coming into effect in New Brunswick next month to combat impaired driving.
Karen Dunham is the president for the Saint John area chapter of MADD and says they believe this will reduce the number of crashes, injuries and deaths in the province.
“We’re grateful to the government for its leadership, and we know the vehicle impoundment provision and the mandatory alcohol interlock will play a significant part in reducing the deaths and injuries,” says Dunham.
“We’ve been working with the government for quite some time on these…there’s always delays getting things put in place so we’re very pleased to see that everything is coming together.
The enhanced measures will also include escalating sanctions on short-term licence suspensions, an extension of the review of a driver’s record from seven years to 10 years and short-term licence suspensions will be recorded on that abstract as well.
