A pastel pink and green-coloured bakery in uptown Saint John that has been satisfying sweet tooths for seven years plans to shutter next year.
The owner of Piece O’Cake Custom Creations on Prince William Street has announced that she is closing up shop in September of 2018.
“I believe we need change in life when it is calling and this is the time for my change,” owner of Piece O’Cake Sherry Brown wrote in a Facebook post announcing the closure of the bakery.
Brown says she’s chosen to stay at home with her kids, license a small kitchen for wedding cakes, and work on a photography passion and that the decision to close wasn’t an easy one.
“It just became clear to me one day…I said to myself I need to close the shop and do something that makes me feel like I’m fufilling my passions to the fullest,” Brown tells CHSJ News. “My agenda is being creative and my creative outlet is cake, wedding cakes, and teaching, the photography thing and being with my kids because they’re getting older so I want to be able to spend more time with them.”
Even though it’s been seven years since the bakery opened Brown tells CHSJ News it feels like just yesterday.
“We blew up in town,” says Brown. “I would say the majority of our clients, customers come back. We know them by name…we built a relationship with them.”
