A rally is taking place today in Fredericton in hopes of getting a Somali man freed from detention and the threat of deportation.
Abdoulkader Abdi grew up in the foster care system in Nova Scotia, but Children`s Services in that province never filed a Canadian citizenship for him and now he faces being sent back to Somalia as an adult.
Tracy Glynn is with the Fredericton chapter of No One Is Illegal and says Abdi now has a second detention review hearing and they are hoping this protest will stop the case from moving forward.
Glynn says the Federal Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen is himself a Somali refugee and she hopes he has a sympathetic ear to Abdi’s case.
Glynn says they will be presenting a letter to Fredericton MP Matt Decourcey, the same letter they sent to Minister Hussen, in hopes of getting his support.
Similar letters will be delivered across the country to MP’s
