There’s a lockdown in place at Dorchester Penitentiary in southeastern New Brunswick.
Officials say the lockdown began around 2 p.m. Tuesday so staff could conduct an “exceptional search”.
They say the search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates.
There’s no word on what prompted the search in the first place or how long the lockdown could last.
Visits have been suspended for the time being and officials say normal operations will resume once it’s considered safe to do so.
